Catherine Elise Blanchett was born on May 14, 1969 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She graduated from Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art and began an extensive stage career. After appearing in several TV series, her film debut was in Paradise Road. Her breakthrough role was as Elizabeth I of England in Elizabeth (and sequel). Other notable films include The Talented Mr. Ripley, Bandits, The Shipping News and Charlotte Gray. She played the Elf Queen Galadriel in both the Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. She portrayed Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator and Bob Dylan in I’m Not There. Cate starred in Blue Jasmine and Carol, and played 13 different characters in Manifesto. She played Hela, the goddess of death in last year’s Thor: Ragnarok, and earlier this year she starred in Ocean’s 8. Her current role is in The House with a Clock in its Walls.
